The Benefits of Nutmeg

Nutmeg is actually a seed kernel of the nutmeg fruit.   It is a highly prized SPICE for its aromatic, aphrodisiac, and curative properties. The nutmeg plant is actually an evergreen tree that is native to the rain forest of Indonesian Moluccas Island.  It thrives in tropical climates and can grow up to 50-60 feet.  The nutmeg fruit resembles an apricot and when split open reveals a single seed which is enwrapped by a crimson-red thread like covering known as โ€œmaceโ€.  Both mace and the inner seed feature a similar warm, sweet aromatic flavor.  The active principles in nutmeg may have anti-fungal, anti-depressant, aphrodisia, digestive, and antioxidant benefits.  This spice also is a good source of minerals like copper, potassium, calcium, manganese, iron, zinc and magnesium.  It is also rich in many B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin A, folic acid, riboflavin, and niacin.
